You see, in the technical school environment there are many challenges, time being one of them. Darin was not convinced and questioned Tom about the level of professionalism needed to build a bike for such a prestigious company. After two successful school builds, Tom wanted to do another one, and upon meeting the Mitchell Tech crew at a car and motorcycle show in Rapid City he was sure they were a good fit. In the OldBook™ Cover Bike project he gets to really show the riding public what can be done with the goods they serve up in the OldBook™. And this project is the pinnacle of that. Tom’s done so many of these at this point that you might think he’d just run it like another day at the office, but if you know Tom then you know how passionate he is about motorcycles. To get the scoop on this project I called up long time friend and the man himself from Drag Specialties, Tom Motzko. He wasn’t sure if he had the goods to be a teacher for MTI, but year after year his him. He actually worked for a John Deere dealership for 25 years repairing tractors but after that company went through a reorganization he decided to heed the advice of his wife and look into another career. Their instructor at Mitchell Tech is Darin Maltsberger, a self-titled tractor mechanic. Many of these students will go onto careers as shop technicians, fabricators and painters through the skills they acquired from this program. It was only back in 2008 that the institute began offering their Power Sports Technology Program which was basically a motorcycle class, but in that short time it has evolved into a highly respected class on mechanical skills and fabrication. They are ranked among the top 10 percent of two-year schools in the nation based on a 98% job placement with their more than 15,000 graduates in the history of the school. Mitchell Tech is located in Mitchell South Dakota and was founded in 1968. Now I don’t want to give you the wrong impression that this was something that was just given to Mitchell Tech, not by a long shot, they earned this. Makes me proud to do business with this company and to feature this bike. They could pick any big name builder in the world, any of them would be happy to put in for this project but they choose to reach down and help the next generation up. I can’t say enough about Drag’s decision to reach out with an opportunity like this. This year Drag Specialties reached out to the kids at the Mitchell Technical Institute to do the deal for the cover and they came up with is the little beauty you see before you here. We have tried each year to be the magazine that scores the right to show the world what they have on the cover and who the featured builder is, or in this case builders that created it. Since the first cover that featured Kevin “Teach” Baas and the kids of Kennedy High School’s Chopper Class build from Drag Specialties parts. Since Drag Specialties started their Old Book offering, which is their collection of parts to suit the shovel, pan and knuckle crowd, we have been big fans. You can pull Green Zebras early for tangy fruit or leave on the vine to sweeten. The texture of the fruit will also clue you in to its readiness it should be firm but yield to gentle pressure. So if they are green, how do you know when they are ripe? It can be difficult but the newer varieties blush red instead of yellowish-green as they become ripe, making it easier to discern. Sidedress with ½ cup of 5-10-5 fertilizer and work into the soil when fruit is around an inch across and then again when harvesting is imminent. Don’t fertilize with high nitrogen foods or fresh manure, which promotes foliage growth and limits fruit set. Mulch around the tomatoes to aid in moisture retention and weed suppression and keep the tomatoes consistently irrigated. You may want to cover the seedlings with row covers or hot caps to keep them warm in the early season. Harden off your Green Zebra tomato plants for a week or so prior to transplanting to reduce stress. Choose a well-draining site with a pH between 6.0-6.8 in full sun, at least 8 hours per day. (10 C.) at night, you can transplant them outside. When the seedlings have 2-3 sets of well-developed leaves and outdoor temps don’t dip below 50 degrees F. Keep the seeds at temps between 65-90 degrees F. Sow the seeds ½ inch deep in a well-draining soilless mix. Because they have a relatively long growing season, they are best started indoors 6 weeks prior to the last frost in your region. Green Zebras are harvestable in about 75 days from transplantation. The vines only reach to around 5 feet in length and can easily be supported in a container. These practically blemish-free beauties can be grown in the garden proper but the tomatoes also make terrific container grown specimens. Maybe they don’t have the age that Grandma’s Mortgage Lifter from the Depression era possesses but, nonetheless, they are a cross between a hybrid and an heirloom. Generally speaking, most people agree that they are a created heirloom. Seems a bit odd to me but, apparently, because World War II ended then and thereafter seeds were widely available from commercial growers and seed companies, whereas before ’45 your neighbor or a church member or your mom were the sources for your seeds. Hard core heirloom definitions say a true heirloom must be “borne of seeds that have been handed down for at least 50 years, but preferably 100.” Some folks pick a rather arbitrary date of 1945 that is seeds available prior to 1945 have heirloom status. So are Green Zebra tomato plants considered heirlooms? It depends upon who you ask. Today, they are widely available through other catalogues and nurseries and it isn’t unusual to find them at the farmer’s market or at high end grocers. They were available in his Tater-Mater Seed catalog from 1983-1986. Tom was determined to improve Evergreen tomatoes however, it did take him some time.įinally in 1983, Tom introduced Green Zebra tomato plants to the world. While he liked Evergreen tomatoes, they tended to crack. He had been thinking about improving upon one of his favorite tomatoes, Evergreen, in the 1950’s. So where did this luscious fruit come from? It would seem to be an heirloom, but is it? Green Zebra heirloom tomatoes were developed by a guy named Tom Wagner from Everett, Washington. The flesh is also green, firm and sweet, yet with a sharp tang. Green Zebra tomato plants yield medium sized (2 inches across or so) fruit that is as its name suggests, chartreuse striated with brilliant lime green stripes. Intrigued? These factors combine to produce the cumulative effect as a “white noise” our ears and then brain receive. The gentle humming and operation of the motor itself.Turbulence caused by the nearby air being disturbed due to blowing.Fan blades spinning through and disturbing the air.The rush of air on the input (suction) and output (forward) sides.Air passing by the surfaces of the fan’s body. There are several factors involved that result in that soothing noise we love: The funny thing is that fans aren’t intentionally designed to make noise! It’s a wonderful side effect of how they work. When a fan run runs, the air is drawn from the rear and forced out the front which causes noise.įans (especially traditional ones like box fans) are an easy-to-use and economical source of noise to cover sounds, reduce stress after a hard day, and promote better sleep. It’s generally caused by the air turbulence created by the blades but often contains the sound of the fan motor, too. “White noise”, the soothing sound produced by many fans, is produced by a number of things that happen when a fan is running. I speak from personal experience! How fans make white noise New environments mean new nuances and small sounds you’re not used to which can hurt your quality of sleep. You’re not accustomed to your surroundings and haven’t had time to adapt. It’s especially helpful to have a fan when you travel for many adults or children sleeping in a new environment can be tough. The result is better sleep as well as better concentration. The psycho-acoustical effect of a soothing noise causes a pleasing and focused state in both many people’s minds and bodies. For example, dishwashers, washing machines, and other sources have a pretty steady and rhythmic “pattern” that affects our brains in a pleasant way. It’s a well-known fact that infants and children are able to sleep more readily with gentle sounds. The result is that as long as the bothersome outside sounds aren’t able to exceed the white noise level we no longer hear them. This is because when many sounds are combined together well (especially with noise!) our brains can’t “hear” the distractions anymore. In reality, the fan isn’t actually removing outside sounds – but for all practical purposes, our brains think it’s gone. This means that the noise it generates simple “covers”, or masks, the sounds that cause you problems and make sleeping or concentrating more difficult. As long as the outside sound is of an equal or lesser volume than the white noise it can be blocked.įans can improve your quality of life using the principle of sound masking. Sounds you otherwise would hear are “covered” (masked) by the sound your fan generates, resulting in it effectively eliminating it. White noise helps by “masking” bothersome noise and creating a more relaxed and distraction-free environment for. “White” is used to describe this particular type while others such as brown and pink exist and describe similar noise but with different acoustical levels in certain frequency ranges. White noise is the term used to describe a sound production that’s made up of all frequencies in the audio band (the range you can hear) at equal levels. How does white noise from a fan help? What is white noise? Summary – The top recommended travel fan for white noise.★ 5 of the best travel fans for white noise ★. If Lightroom only included its Catalog module it would still pretty much be worth the price of admission. Want to sort 100,000 images by the focal length they were shot at? Done. Want to find images shot at 300mm, at f/7.1, 1/640th of a second, tagged with “polar bear” and assigned a star rating of four or higher? Lightroom makes unbelievably efficient work of quickly – instantly, often – returning the images you’re looking for. Our Lightroom library is scraping 130,000 images and search performance really has to be seen to be believed. Lightroom also offers a somewhat softer landing for newcomers. Capture One offers an incredible amount of power, but that power is often buried beneath fairly involved dialogue boxes and tools with names only a pro could love. While Lightroom is certainly a powerful application with a decently-steep learning curve, Capture One arguably offers the less-accessible experience. There’s also the question of more widespread support. Capture One has an army of ardent admirers, but Lightroom is unquestionably the more popular. That means a better selection of presets (one-click editing files for styling your images), plugins and, for those still learning the ropes, YouTube tutorials. Capture One is by no means unsupported, but if you’re looking for a bit of help, Lightroom’s shallower learning curve and blooming number of tutorials definitely count as an edge.įinally, there’s Photoshop integration. As you’d expect, Photoshop and Lightroom are bosom buddies: not only can you open an edited image in the grandparent of editing applications you can also open an image as a Smart Object, which means the edits you’ve applied in Lightroom will be changeable in Photoshop. There’s a tight integration that makes in-depth editing sessions possible without losing any of Lightroom’s organizational benefits.Photoshop vs Lightroom: what's the difference and which is the best for you?. When should you use Capture One instead of Lightroom? If you’re using Lightroom and Photoshop in tandem, there’s virtually nothing you can’t do with an image. If you want to keep your editing strictly to a single application, you’ll want to stick with Capture One, whose editing abilities are even more fully fledged than Lightroom’s. AEW WrestleDream Review – October 1, 2023 The one with his friends and the one where Isla's a memory. "I hope, one day, that I'll be reunited with you." None of it is real, only his imagination, but to him, it means the world. She tells him, again, that it's okay to move on. He knows he can't stay clinging to her, He has to let go. Seeing the lights, the ones Him and Isla watched and the ones Isla breathed her last breaths in. One last time, his partner invites him to the ferris wheel. His father would be furious and he would have no place to work. Maybe his partner finds him at the amusement park, the way he always is, sitting on Isla's bench. If you reject them, the only memories they'll have of you are the cold, miserable ones. Kazuki tells him the same thing she told Isla. He rejects all his other friends and his new partner too. Something to help give her some confidence. Maybe staging a mission that seems hard but that she can definitely do. It's only when the rest of tsukasa's co-workers step in. They both hit rock bottom, coming to a standstill. His partner sees his pain and she wants to help him. It begins breaking down his mask, showing some of the emotion deep inside. He knows, deep down, that he doesn's want to feel that pain again. His partner invites him on some of the rides. Tsukasa has taken Isla's bench in the amusement park. It's when his new partner tries to move forward, perhaps into a relationship a little further than partners. Even given permission to move on, he still hurts. He wants to move on, but he's haunted by the still-fresh memories of his time with isla. He puts that mask on, the one to hold the tears in. I'll tell the story from the beginning.Īfter the events of season 1, Tsukasa is still under a facade. It's only when your friends step in, (in this case, the rest of Tsukasa's co-workers and friends) and help both you and the other person through it. Later, when you find out it's your fault, and you're the reason he's hurting. You want to help them, but only make it worse. Someone close to you is going through hard times. If you can't relate to tsukasa, you can relate to his new partner. And we all are or are in the process of getting over it, getting back to the way it was, enjoying what life has to offer, to its fullest. The themes of these seasons are relatable too. I think that'll help connect the viewers with some of our characters. I know that many people don't want to move on from isla (Believe me, i don't either) but neither does tsukasa. I know my season 2 isn't perfect (probably not viable) But it was still fun to share here. Knowing all good things will end, or having experienced loss in the past, you need to learn to move on, to enjoy the present. The theme of season 2 being a direct sequel to that of season 1. Though at the end, he seemed like he moved on, Remember how long he held those tears in. They know that he needs to find a way to move on, to enjoy the now. This affects his work and his relationship with not only his new partner, but everyone else working with him. I doubt tsukasa will be up for that (Maybe even subconsciously.) seeing his experience with isla. Though, If you wanted to continue with a season 2 (No isla.) with the same kind of theme, You could have Tsukasa's (of course he still works there) new partner want a bit more than a partner relationship. It would be kinda cheap if they turned it around in a memory expansion program. The only thing that remains of the good times, will be the memories. The whole show tells you that nothing good lasts forever. I feel (Oddly, to some of you) That the anime's ending is better. Thought i should share my ideas.Īlthough there's the "good" ending in the game, The canon ending is that of the anime. "I am terrified of Harmon and him attacking me. Perrette's departure in 2017 came as a surprise to her fans, but it was her reasons for leaving that were even more shocking.Īt the time of her exit, the actress posted a series of cryptic tweets that accused Harmon of bringing his dog to work, which bit a crew member who then required 15 stitches. Pauley Perrette was another original NCIS cast member, having played the role of forensic scientist Abby Sciuto for 15 seasons. So that being said, here's why they all quit. Though Harmon still serves as executive producer on the series and showrunner Steve Binder believes there's still a chance for his return, his departure (coinciding with the series' upcoming 20th season) has us wondering about all the other cast members who have come and gone over the years. Just remember that the more time you spend assigning properties to your books is time that you could have spent reading instead. The beauty of Notion is that you can customize the table to your heart’s content. You might disagree with me and delete some columns, or you might end up adding some of your own. I imagine that the template should serve most people well. I’ve simply selected properties based on what I think is important to track for my personal reading. No judgment if you answer yes to any of these questions. Do I really need to be scrolling endlessly to the right to see all of these properties?.Do I really need to add a cover image for each book?.Do I really need to keep track of whether the book is paperback or hardcover?.Do I really need to mark down whether I own the book or if I borrowed it from the library?.Do I really need to add a progress bar and take the time to update it between starting and finishing the book?.Do I really need to add the book’s release date?.Do I really need to remember which date I added the book to my list?.Do I really need to take note of which series a book is from?.Before you go off doing the same, consider these questions: I’ve seen some people go waaay overkill with properties. You can be as general or specific here as you like. You can leave it at fiction/non-fiction, or you can add multiple subgenres. genreįiction + subgenre or non-fiction + subgenre. You can use stars instead if you want, or you can make the rating out of 10 if that suits you better. I prefer numerical ratings so that I can use decimals to be more specific. For this property I generally use the number of pages reported by my Kobo. It can also help to explain why one book took you a month to get through, while another book took only a week since it probably had fewer pages. I’ve included it in mine because, depending on what sorts of books you read, the number of pages may be a better indication of how much you have read over time than the number of books (since books can vary widely in terms of the number of pages they have). If you’ve found other reading list templates online, you might have noticed that not all of them have this property. The book’s position in the reading queue: in progress, priority, unread, complete, or DNF. You can change this property to multi-select to add more than one author. The all view shows all entries simultaneously (it has no filters).įor each entry in the table, I like to keep track of: title. This is because I use unread as my default view for modifying entries, so I don’t want the book I’m working on to disappear into the complete view until I’ve filled out all of the properties. The complete view filters the master table to only show books which have been marked complete, have an end date, and have been assigned a rating. The unread view filters the master table to only show books which have been marked in progress, priority, or unread.Technically these table views are all part of the same master table, but they are filtered differently based on relevant properties. This reading list consists of 6 views (which can be accessed via the dropdown menu beside master book list): unread (aka “TBR” or “To Be Read”) complete fiction non-fiction DNF (Did Not Finish) all Here is the link to the template if you would like to follow along and add it to your own Notion workspace: A reading list is also sometimes called a TBR or “To Be Read”, however I find this term rather narrow as it doesn’t encompass books you have already completed, which is something I also like to keep track of. (pretty much anything you can read), though reading lists comprising books are the most popular. You can also add articles, comics, websites, etc. You probably already know the answer to this if you’ve found yourself here, but in case you don’t, a reading list is essentially a list of books that you plan to read, are in the process of reading, or have already read. It is available on Web, macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. Notion is a productivity application which can be used to generate a variety of tools, such as notes, databases, reminders, wikis, calendars, and kanban boards.
